Reseach into slideshows and narration for evaluation

Before starting the narration I research into a number of different slideshows and examples of narrations for my evaluation here is a link to an example of one which stood out particularity for me. Kimono culture - a dying art?

Evaluation part 1 script

The continuity of the film was originally different than the final product we went on to actually produce.
We originally intended  to tell the story backwards, retelling the story through the use of memory flashbacks by the main character Alpha 7 telling of his escape and then his return to confront his creator in the final scene.
However after showing a version reflecting  this idea to a selection of our intended audience, we discovered from a preliminary showing of the film that they found this extremely confusing.
We changed to continuity of the film to show the scenes in chronological order. Also crucial was the timing of filming.
We filmed the escape of alpha 7 from the facility when it was dark, and his return during the early  morning.
The time of the filming was done deliberately by the group to show differentiation in scenes Because of this we had to consciously think about the time of filming and thus continuity.

We initially did not plan the film around the sci-fi genre, but the basic ideas that we as a group had for the film fitted into that genre. To make the film appear more science fiction like, we introduced a number of different elements such as the history behind the cloning tank, and blueprints that we produced specifically for this.

In Richard dyers theory of entertainment and utopia, energy is one of the main theories that echos within our film.
In the film the audience experience a number of high-energy sequences. Most notably the chase sequences at the star of the film, and when alpha 7 is ruining up the stairs towards the final confrontation, between him and Preston.

While making the production each group member offered different ideas about how we should film each set of scenes. Everyone in the group at some time during production offered ideas that had been influenced by other films. Ideas that we gained from other productions was aided by the initial research that we did but also primarily from films we’ve viewed in the past, that gave inspiration to the original idea we had for the film.

Examples of this were" the island", and "blade runner". Members of the group had viewed at least one of these films ,and the subject matter of  both were similar to our own film. " The island "had a major influence on our production, specifically in the scenes where there is a confrontation between alpha 7 and Preston, similar to the confrontation seen in the island with the clone. Other films  that also influenced our production were "Commando "and "The 400 blows", which gave inspiration to specific scenes in the film such as the changing scene, and the intro and running scene.

Viral Marketing

Viral marketing (aka Viral advertising)uses pre-established social networks to raise awerness of a brand name or product in our case, our film, with the intention of rasing sales for that product.

Viral Marketing can work thoguh several different methods:
  • Word of mouth
  • Letters
  • Internet including, scocial networks, emails, online traliers and video clips or other computer software.
  • TV, radio
  • Ebooks
  • Games some with adverts, others specifically designed to tie into the product.
  • Text messages
  • Images
  • brandable software
For Viral marketing to be successful in rasing awereness of our film, three basic criteria must present:

  1. Messenger: simply the people who deliver the message, these people would neeed to be proactive and persuasive in rasisng awereness of the film. the messenger may be one of the mediums mentioned above, in this case it will still need a persuasive eliment in order to create interest benifitial to the 'sales' of the film (in our case we won't be selling the film)
  2. Message: The moe interesting and more eye catching a message is the more memorable it becomes and it resluts in more interest, Viral Marketing techniques use a variety of emotional methods to create attention. This ranges from humour to simpthy to anger, all are used in viral marketing, some adverts are humerous, others are 'cute' and still others very annoying and are there for remembered. when creating a message it is important to remember the objective is to create something shocking eye catching and memorable, not necessarily 'good' in terms of veiwing pleasure. the video to the right is a memorable one, it is both eye catching and humerous, it spark intreeg and curiocity the music and actions of the mouse make it humerous, the sympathy for the mouse increases as the audiecne wonders whether or not the mouse will get hit with the mouse trap and the actions of the mouse afterwards make it successful, people want to talk about it and share the video, thus nmaking the advrtising suucessful, mostly is the video is successful in being momorable the the product will alkso be momorable. slogans are also used eg Nolans 'seriously strong'.
other examples include the very annoying go compare opra man(above).  The advertisements where he sings (advertising go compare) in an opera fasion are very annoying, so annoying facebook groups have been dedicated to the hatred of this man! however despite his annoyance it highlights the success of hits viral marketing, subconsciously even though people hate him, it advertises go compare, because it is memorable. still other examples include the meerkat go compare the market.com advert which follows a mini story each advert being like an episode, or the harribo interrogation adverts. they are usually funny interesting and always memorable.
Compare the meerkat (market) (just one of a series of adverts)

Environment: the environment when releasing the product is also crucial, for example usually when major films are released like pirates of the caribbean many other products associating with pirates are released at the same time. films fight for release times due the the competition, there is no point in releasing a film for school children during the middle of term or during exams, the best time to release it would be during the hoidays, where the message will be the most effectively spread though it's audience. it is therefore key, to for audience research, in order to successfully advertise the product.

For my viral marketing idea i am going to incorporate all of the above information, my plan is to re-create the opening scene of our film in lego stop motion, i hope it will be funny, interesting, unusually but most of all i am aiming for it to be memorable.
here are some examples of other lego stop motion films i have created partly as a test for the one im planning for our film and partly just as fun:

unfortunetely, due to illness i was unable to make the lego stop motion film, i would have liked to have done it however i run out of time.
