Documents for Title Sequence

These documents will be used during the titles to infer the creation of the clone.



This is the Blue print of the 'creation tank' we realised that it would be much too hard to create something like this to use as a prop so in the early stages of planning we decided to infer the creation of the clone rather than try to film any of it, it makes the film much, much easier to do and it allowed us to run with the idea we had for a clone film.

this document is going to be used a profiling document, to give a little bit of personaility and character to Alpha 7

This document is to highlight the clone side of Alpha and the succes of the clone creation.

this document highlights the use for the clone if it were to become an industry for Preston.
































after Creating these documents, i used word to create them.
the written documents i did a little research on the topic and then wrote something that sort of makes sense. The check list documents i used a book that looked at the different 'systems' in the body. The blueprint document i created by first copying a blank blueprint background from google, i then drew the shape onto it using auto shapes in word. I later screen grabbed the pictures and converted them into JPG to use i the film sequence, we also filmed some simple background shots of documents on a desk, this was using the same documents i had made printed out. This i how i edited the titles together:


Note (rather than doing this work on how i edited the sequence whilst i was editing it it has been done afterwards)

this is perhaps the most complicated part of the documents:the way i created the effect with the clone document moving over with the important information hylighted. the important information has been highlighted and 'jumps out' at the audience this is done because we wouldn't have time to let them read the whole document and that would be ineffective so i hylighted key words to give them a vague idea, it works very well. if you see the picture above you can see i have 'stacked' the document multiple times. on the original document i have the key words in bold, here i put the original document up once and on top of it i put more documents i then cropped the documents on top so they were effectively only the bold words, before i did this i key framed the original document and then copied it, this meant all the documents moved in exactly the same place, rather than doing it again and again.

now all the documents followed the same 'path' i then put a blur effect on the bottom document this created an effect where the only readable words were the ones in bold, the key words i had planned for people to see. I also changed the opacity to make the document transparent this meant i you could see the keyboard in the background, the four point matt and the soft edges helped make it less 'bold', it had a very sharp look to it when the document had harsh straight lines, now it's feathered it blended with the background documents much better... the keyboard in the background is meant firstly to replace a blank black background, but it also added to the title sequence subtly by revealing how the document may have been made. in the middle we see a close up of the key board and in the top left we see an extreme close up on the keys, i did try changing shot in the background but i looked messy and drew the attention from the document, the cluttered look of having two shots on screen also adds to it, we tried it without and most people agreed it looked best the way it is now.


The way i made the bold words even clearer was by making them 'jump out' tis was fairly simple to do using key frames.

I made a rather nice effect using a panning shot of documents as a fade, i did this by key framing the opacity to in between two shots so it started off transparent became opaque and went back to transparent between shots, this is a nicer way to fade between shots and it adds to the number of documents, it increases tension and reveals important aspects to our film, we needed this to work as it inferred a large proportion of our film if the titles failed our film would not work.






The titles are key framed to appear in time with the music, rhythmic editing. This was not planned originally the music i found for the titles happened to fit very closely to where i was going to put the tiles anyway, i happened partly by chance. i found the music from the audio network CD's we have available at college.

I created a shiny metal effect for the titles this was to go alongside the genre of the film we found that Sci fi films often have a metal feel or look to them so we tried to re create this effect throughout our film, this was one of the ways we achieved this. i used a mirror effect to double up or 'Duplicate' the titles keeping in theme with the film. the shiny metal effect was done by using a bloom effect.

I have put a sepia effect on the whole titles to help infer that it is past rather than  present. it also highlights the documents, i found that when i put this blueprint document on (the one i was most proud of and spent most time making) that firstly it looked very bright unlike the others which were dark and it was static, which doesn't look right, i solved this rather simply by darkening the blueprint so it wasn't so bright i then using key frames slowly  zoomed in on the document, this made it flow better.

i used the same effect as the titles on the film name, but to give it extra effect i also put a 'light rays' effect on the title so it shone, this just looked awesome, and put emphasis on the film name it's self helping to establish it.

finally i overlapped the end of the titles with something we created when filming, we had a lamp on a dest for the documents, owen held the document in front of the camera lens making it black and then threw it down causing the camera to 'flash' as it auto adjusted to the light, this was done deliberately because i used to to remove the titles, it works nicely as i remove the titles in the flash, it is subtle and works very well rather than a fade or a cut, i tried to find ways to more creatively cut and fade between shots rather than the usual cuts and fades that would be present throughout the film.

Location Photographs

A Barnsley Street

This is where we will film one of the scenes where Alpha 7 is running. The opening scene will be shot here. The Town Hall will hopefully be in the background to establish that the Preston Research Facility, although it is 'secret', it is still seen in the middle of the Town Centre.

Barnsley College Main Building

This is the Barnsley College building which, for us, will be the setting of Preston's headquarters and the front of the building is the entrance where Alpha 7 makes his escape and it is the place where Preston and Mr Cooper catch him leaving.

Barnsley College Building Stairs

On the stairs is where a big part of the action will be shot as this is where Alpha 7 is relaying his flashbacks, it is where Mr Cooper shows Preston where Alpha 7 is, and it is where the guards are behind chasing Alpha 7.

Barnsley College Building 4th Floor Corridor

This is the corridor outside Alpha 7's confinment room, and it is where Mr Cooper and Preston talking about the plan of his termination. It is where Alpha 7 begins his escape.

Barnsley College Buuilding 4th Floor Classroom

This is where Alpha 7 will be confined to, it is the room where he hears about his termination and changes his clothes.

Bethel Community Centre Diner

This is the set that will become the café where Alpha 7 has an epiphany and comes to a life-changing decision when he hears the radio broadcast and the public talking about the Preston Research Facility. He realises that he will always have the location dwelling in his mind and he cant truly escape from it.

Barnsley College Building 4th Floor Classroom (Different to First)

This is where the confrontation between Alpha and Preston happens and where the vital part of the story happens, as they switch personas and become each other.

ALPHA 7
(Voice Over)
Still running. Running. Always
running. This is how it is.

INT. HEADQUARTERS - DAY


Alpha 7 is sat in a confined room and he hears voices
arguing in the corridor. He puts his ear up against the door
hearing what Charles and Mr Cooper (the chief guard) is
saying.

Shot wipes into the corridor


CHARLES
Cooper!

MR COOPER
Mr Preston Sir?

CHARLES
Come here...
(Pause)
I’ve got a job for you, concerning
Alpha 7...


MR COOPER
What is it?


CHARLES
The test trials are finished, I
need it terminated immediately!


MR COOPER
But...


CHARLES
Immediately!


Mr Cooper nods and walks out of shot. 


Wipes to Alpha 7 and he looks worried, he turns and looks for some alternative clothing. He searches a cupboard and finds some old suit clothes.



EXT. OUTSIDE - AFTERNOON


Alpha 7 running again, going into the headquarters building.



INT. HEADQUARTERS - DAY


Alpha 7 comes out from a room buttoning up his shirt looking
around suspiciously. He starts running as alarms go off.

Charles walks down the stairs as Mr Cooper walks up the stairs and
they meet.


CHARLES
Cooper! What is going on?!


Mr Cooper points over to the window as they walk over to it.

Charles pulls an expression of anger.

INT. HEADQUARTERS - DAY


Alpha 7 is running up some stairs in the headquarters.



INT. CAFE - DAY


Alpha 7 enters the cafe looking worn out. A waitress comes over to him.

WAITRESS
Are you okay love?

Alpha 7 looks confused

WAITRESS
Do you want a tea? Coffee?
Hot Chocolate? Cappuccino? Latte?

Alpha 7 looks confused again.

WAITRESS
(Consoling)
Here (Pulls up a chair) Why
don't you take a seat and i'll
bring something over...

Alpha sits down looking down-hearted.


News broadcast begins



FEMALE NEWS REPORTER
...serious concerns surrounding The
Preston Research Facility. John
Milligan has more from the scene.


JOHN MILLIGAN
Thank you, I'm here at The Preston
Research Facility, earlier this morning
critical alarms were raised again which
has sparked off major concerns around the
exact nature of the facility. Investigations
are currently underway as to what happened here.
(START TO FADE) We will report to you with more
information later this evening. Back to you in the studio...

GIRL 1
There’s always something going on
there...


GIRL 2
Yeah... My uncle works there as
head of security or something and he
isn't allowed to tell me anything...


GIRL 1
I wonder why its all so secretive...


GIRL 2
I overheard him saying that
they were planning a big project...

GIRL 1
Hmmm...


Alpha 7 looks turns his gaze away from the girls and looks down. waitress brings over a chocolate.

WAITRESS
Here we are. That'll keep you
warm inside

Alpha 7 stirs the chocolate.


ALPHA 7 (VOICE OVER) (Freeze frame)
So I decided to go back...


INT. HEADQUARTERS - DAY


Alpha 7 is running up stairs. Voices of guards can be heard.

He cuts his hand on something and he stops to examine his
hand. He looks around for Preston. He bursts through a door to find him standing there.

ALPHA 7

Why did you create me, only to (SHORT PAUSE) "terminate" me?

ALPHA 7

Why?

Alpha 7 gives a small angry chuckle.

Alpha 7 looks as he is about to hit him (POV shot)

Guards run up the stairs and burst through the same door.

Preston is on the floor with a bloody nose and with his tie
and jacket missing.

Alpha 7 is adjusting his tie (taken from Preston) and he
looks up sharp at Mr Cooper.

2 guards grab Preston and take him out when he shouts.


CHARLES
(Screams in protest)


Charles’ cries die down and Mr Cooper addresses Alpha 7


MR COOPER
I’m very sorry sir, everything is
in order now.


ALPHA 7
(Stuttering slightly)
Very good, carry on.


They shake hands.


Fade slowly to credits.

Main Props

Radio

This will be used for broadcasting the news announcement about the clone and the disaster at the research facility. This is important because it is where Alpha hears about his life and realises he can never run away from it so he changes his mind, resulting in a change of life.

Tea

This is what Alpha will drink at the café we originally wanted to use coffee to give a better stirring effect, however, Joseph didn't like it so we will use tea instead.









Spoon
Used to stir the hot chocolate. The shot that the spoon is used in is a symbol of Alpha's life being turned around.

Background Props:

• Newspaper read by an extra (for added effect)
• Kitchen ware (cutlery, plates, jugs etc.) used in general for the realistic effect of the cafe scene
• Documents for Title sequence, needed to infer the creation of alpha 7

Gollum Parallel

Gollum youtube clip (from Lord of the Rings)

This is a link to a youtube extract from the film 'the lord of the rings' where Gollum, a character with 2 personalities that clash, has an argument with 'himself'. The reason i have added this is that it illustrates how we will try to achieve the effect of having Preston confront his clone in our film, i think the extract from Lord of the rings is very effective and i think if we used this idea in our film to represent the 2 different characters, the clone and Preston, it will work and it will be effective in illustrating to the audience the 'identical' characters who have two different personalities.
